It was little wonder to me that Doc Johnson has made a complete line of products based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Personal lubricants, cock ring and vibrator boxes all are adorned with familiar images in a capital W forming an intricate crest to set the scene of Wonderland.
When I was growing up, Alice was always my favorite of the Disney heroines. She was determined to find some semblance of normality while finding herself in a situation that was completely nonsensical. She relied on her own wits, not some prince, to find her way while dealing with strange and unusual characters. So when we were offered the chance to review a vibe from the Wonderland line, I jumped at the chance.
The Kinky Kat massager is a pink vibrator shaped to represent the Cheshire Cat. It has the triangular ears, trademarked cheeky-toothy grin, a small heart shaped nose and a tail wrapped around its body (which is about half of the shaft). I think it could be considered cute, but it is missing eyes (a detail that my daughter noticed right away). One of my reviewers on staff refused to touch it saying that it “looked sort of creepy”.
It is made of a smooth (almost velvet feeling) silicone and abs plastic. It has a metal band around the bottom where it is twisted apart for battery insertion. (It requires 1AA battery). Kinky Kat has a white washer-type band (plastic?) to keep water out of the battery compartment Doc Johnson claims that it is water proof, which is a good thing as it would be very difficult to clean without being able to submerge it as it has a lot of nooks and crannies for bodily fluids or bacteria to get trapped.
The Kinky Kat is smaller than I had imagined it to be. It measures only 5.5” from ear tip to bottom. It is about 4” insertable (to the metal band). The diameter varies from 1.25” (the head) to .75” (the neck). So I would consider it to be more of an external toy, thought it does have a lot of texture for vaginal play.
This vibe has one button on the bottom. The first push turns in on; after than each push helps it cycle through10 unique patterns; to turn it off, one holds the button down for 2 seconds.
My thoughts:
I tried the Kinky Kat both internally and externally, but was not impressed. I found the patterns more irritating than erotic and was unhappy that there were no intensity controls. I am not much of a fan of random patterns. Most of the time, I tend to keep clit stimulators on high. But maybe I am not as sensitive as some people are. Although this does have a constant “high” vibration, it was not what I would consider very powerful (perhaps because it relies on 1 AA battery?).
I also took it into the bathtub with me. I am pleased to announce that the Kinky Kat survived being submerged. I was worried about water getting into the battery compartment and destroying the electronics; primarily because I have lost two cell phones that way… It is indeed waterproof.
I had some trouble cleaning it so ended up using a soft children’s toothbrush to clean the crevices.
I had such high hopes for the Kinky Kat. I love the adorable design and sensuous feel of the material. But the difficulty in cleaning out all of its detailed grooves and its low intensity make it difficult to think of the Kinky Kat by Doc Johnson as anything other than a “novelty item”.
