Next, let’s get the technical stuff out of the way…
The package includes:
- The vibrator
- A wireless transmitter (for “Music Mode”)
- A 12” AUX Input Connector
- A white satin “privacy pouch”
The Better Than Chocolate itself is 4 inches long, 2 inches wide, and about an inch thick. It has a touch-sensitive controller that cycles through the patterns or changes the intensity depending on where or how you touch it. It runs off of two AAA batteries, with the power button on the end opposite the touch controller. It comes with four pre-programmed patterns plus a “music mode” and an iPod/iPhone app. It’s waterproof (up to a meter), but the slider control won’t work while submerged. The transmitter is approximately half of the length and slightly thinner.
I was extremely skeptical that 2 AAA batteries would be able to provide enough power for this to be worth my time. I was not just pleasantly surprised, but outright shocked at what a little workhorse this vibrator turned out to be. It easily rivals anything else I have in my toy chest.
When I pulled it out of the box the first time, I wondered how this funny shaped thing was supposed to work. It doesn’t look like any other toy I’ve seen. From the side it looks somewhat boomerang shaped. From the top it looks like an elongated diamond with the sides angled up and the top/bottom angled down. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll refer to the touch control end as the “top” and the power button end as the “bottom.” What I discovered is that there’s no wrong way to use this toy. The first time I played with it, I tried it with my fingers cradling it with the top down. It worked like an absolute dream. I don’t know that I could use a better word to describe exactly how much fun it was to play with the Better Than Chocolate than “ecstatic.” And not to worry, if you prefer to leave your hands free, it works just as beautifully to grind on it with the top up.
The music mode works by plugging the transmitter into the audio port of a stereo (or iPod/iPhone, mp3 player, computer, etc.) and then plugging the headphones or speakers into the other end of the transmitter. The Better Than Chocolate will switch to “music mode” automatically, as long as it’s on. I found that when using an iPod or mp3 player, the volume level needed for the vibrator to register the signal was loud enough to be distracting. However, when I used my laptop instead, it was again, perfect.
So, to sum it all up, the Better Than Chocolate – Music Edition from OhMiBod and Nomi Tang is a great addition to my toy collection. One that I look forward to using for a very, very long time. It definitely lives up to its name!
